We're glad you're here because this is a really important topic for us. From our corporate offices to
our field deployments, we make sustainable practices a top priority. We focus on recycling, re-using and
simply using less. We also strive to foster a company-wide culture of environmental responsibility and
awareness. We work toward educating our customers, vendors and everyone we come in contact with.
Like any business, we have choices in what we purchase and how we manage resources. Some of our sustainable
practices:
- Green procurement program – office paper, corporate stationary and promotional documents are created using 100% recycled paper. Boxes and packaging material include a minimum 65% recycled content.
- Recycling paper, plastic, glass and aluminum – we have containers for recycling paper, plastic, glass and aluminum in our corporate office and warehouses.
- Responsible "e-recycling" of high-tech products, radios, batteries and ink cartridges - old computers, mobile phones and other electronics are diverted only to responsible "e-recyclers." We work closely with communications equipment manufacturers to recycle two-way radio components and batteries.
- Leading by example - we encourage our business partners, customers and vendors to establish their own sustainability practices.
- Transportation - as part of our effort to curb emissions, we have invested in hybrid vehicles for sales and delivery.
- Energy-Efficiency – 100% of office and warehouse light bulbs have been replaced with energy-efficient lighting, while maximizing use of natural light.
- Re-Use – we use both sides of the paper when printing and customers will often receive a ‘used’, but structurally sound shipping box.
- Go Paperless! - work toward a paperless office by signing up for EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) with vendors and customers, paying bills online and emailing sales orders and invoices.
- Give Back - commit a percentage of our annual revenues to a local green cause or community program.
Recycling Used Batteries
The proper handling and recycling of used batteries is important in regard to protecting our environment.
Used batteries (nickel cadmium, nickel metal hydride, lithium ion and small lead acid less than
two pounds in weight) can be recycled.
At Champlin Wireless, we look to the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC),
a non-profit organization founded to promote the recycling of rechargeable batteries. We also work closely with
Motorola in support of their corporate responsibility practices.
It’s an interesting process, but above all by recycling used batteries we are eliminating the chance
they will make their way to a landfill. Instead, the current approach is to use a thermal recovery
process that reclaims the metals (nickel, iron, cadmium, lead and cobalt) from the batteries and prepares
them for use in new products. In fact, all of the material collected by the RBRC is recycled and used to create other types of materials,
including new batteries and scrap metal. None of the battery material makes its way to the landfills and we think that’s pretty cool.
A few more facts:
A portion of the proceeds received from the resale of recycled materials benefit select charities, such
as Boys & Girls Clubs of America and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in the
United States.
Consumers use an average of six wireless products in their day-to-day lives, and the average cell phone is replaced (or upgraded)
every 18 to 24 months. That's a lot of rechargeable batteries and cell phones, so we want to make sure that
they are properly disposed of and don’t end up in our landfills. Remember - when it's time to retire your
old cell phones or replace your rechargeable batteries – Recycle Them! You'll help preserve natural
resources and keep discarded products out of landfills.
Since 1996, RBRC has collected over 42 million pounds of rechargeable batteries in the U.S and Canada.
Thank you to the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC) for providing the background, education
and resources referenced on this page.
